Welcome

tempora mutantur, nos et mutamur in illis

The times are changing and we change with them.

My name is John Ventre. I’ve had a variety of front office roles in finance, from startup to big company, broker to fund manager, and analyst to trader. I’ve even turned my hand to teaching finance. These days I work only for myself, trading my own capital.

I welcome you to my new blog. 2morrownomics.com will always look to the future, while trying to use the lessons of the past to anchor its analysis.

So, why start a blog? I don’t miss working for other people, I don’t miss the office politics and I don’t miss the hours. I do miss being heard, sharing my views and experiences and insights (when I have them!) with others.

The viral pandemic of 2020 has catalysed this. Being cut off from a variety of social interactions, from meeting people both new and old, has turned my intellectual isolation from a problem into a crisis. Yet, I’m confident that this isn’t just for now. Those who know me know that I’ve threatened this for years, and with a new decade and maybe a new world, some futurology could never be more important.

I’ve tried to write a book. I suppose, technically, I still am. I’m sure it will emerge from the ether one day, but in the meantime and beyond, this blog will be an outlet. An outlet for all those things I think about that are related to economics, to politics, to the future of humans on this planet, but which don’t really find form as an investment idea.

That’s it for now. I’ll be back later this week with my first real post, which I hope you will all enjoy reading as much as I will writing it.
